Shelby Benson, t-LMHC
As a temporary licensed mental health counselor (t-LMHC), I am committed to walking alongside clients in their mental health journey with compassion, authenticity, and evidence-based care. I believe in the importance of creating a safe, supportive, and empathetic space where clients feel empowered to grow, build resilience, and achieve their goals.

I especially enjoy working with children and adolescents (age 4-18) facing a variety of challenges including anxiety, depression, grief and loss, life transitions, self-esteem concerns, trauma, and autism. My therapeutic style incorporates play-based techniques and is grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Person-Centered Therapy (PCT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).

I graduated with my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Grand View University in 2025 and have experience working in a generalist private practice setting as well as a structured agency supporting children with autism.
In my free time, I enjoy traveling, trying new coffee shops, spending time with family and friends, and cuddling with my two cats (Milo and Frankie).
