**Dr. Waterhouse's testing waitlist is currently closed. Please check back mid-fall for updates on when it will be open again.
Dr. LeAnn Waterhouse is a Licensed Psychologist who is passionate about helping people live more fulfilling lives. She provides individual therapy and conducts psychological assessments. LeAnn’s approach to therapy is to help those with whom she works get to the core of their struggles to make deep, lasting change. She does this through exploration to develop understanding and self-compassion and then through helping her clients experiment with new solutions, new perspectives, and new ways of being. At its core, her approach is strengths-based and nonjudgmental.
Dr. Waterhouse also conducts psychological assessment with children (as young as age 6) and adults. Assessments are designed to quickly gather a large amount of information about an individual – through interviews and objective testing measures – and determine diagnoses and recommendations for treatment. She most often assesses for concerns related to learning disorders (such as dyslexia) and ADHD, but also offers assessment for Autism Spectrum Disorder in adults.
Dr. Waterhouse earned her PhD in Counseling Psychology from Iowa State University in 2012. She completed much of her training in University Counseling Centers (including her pre-doctoral internship, at Texas A&M University) and completed a post-doctoral fellowship conducting
psychological assessments with adolescents in the Juvenile Court System. Since becoming licensed, LeAnn has worked in private practice providing services to individuals in the community. Her theoretical orientation is primarily humanistic/existential, and she draws techniques from a variety of therapies including Cognitive Behavioral, Emotion Focused, Internal Family Systems, EMDR, and Interpersonal Process.
In her off hours, LeAnn enjoys spending time with her spouse, daughter, and two dogs. She looks forward to trips to the park, roughhousing with the kiddo and pups, reading in coffee shops, and time with friends. LeAnn’s down time also consists of learning how to throw pottery, photographing beautiful things around Des Moines, experimenting with new restaurants, and, during really rough weeks, laying on the couch doing absolutely nothing.
